so far I found out that:
SlideController.initialize(<?php $gv->json() ?>, <?php echo $imageIndex
?>);
in "templates/view/image.inc" prints:
SlideController.initialize(Array, 0);

somehow the methode "json" does not convert the array ($images) 
to proper javascript.

but why this only seems to happen on my system I have no idea...
