Really? Your interpretation of a standard, saying it "MUST support"  
non-standard properties is that it must not break while it doesn't  
need to process and store these properties?

That's absolutely OK. I think that it's also OK to say "the standard  
requires it, but we can't/won't/don't want to do it". (But then it's  
not compliant.)
