For unix, I use...

cd horde
cvs update -Pd 2>&1 | grep "^C"

Then edit/fix anything that shows a conflict...  Updates everything except
my config files and backend (sql, ldap, etc) changes.  Most up2date programs
don't mess with those either, and those that do often either mess them up
or rename/replace them, which isn't optimal.

I'm happy with the above.  I'd appreciate it more if developers who change
the backend storage would provide scripts to update them, but that doesn't
require a new application....
