Perhaps I didn't make myself clear in my original question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't HTTP authentication require some client-side (i.e. browser) identification?  

If so, then why would a newly imaged computer, never before used with Horde, connect and see a username?  

If I'm missing something, please let me know what I can do to stop this from happening.  It's very disconcerting to the users.
