imp does not read ~HOME/mbox

Hi all:
Sorry for this beginner's question about UW imap
server & IMP.
I have these files at /var/spool/mail/david(0 bytes)
and /home/david/mbox(many Kbytes) but after IMP loging
,it show me 0 messages in INBOX.
why ?

P.S pine can both read /var/spool/mail/david and
/home/david/mbox.

Horde Versions
Horde: 3.0 
IMP: 4.0 
PHP Version: 4.2.0-dev 
IMAP Support: Yes
