[imp] (Default) Identities vs. 'from' hook

Hi there!

We're using IMP 3.1 on a mailserver for quite a lot of domains. In order to have usable from: addresses I created a function for $conf['hooks']['from'] which parsese sendmail's virtusertable. However, this seems to override (as stated in the config file) the user's identity. As some users might want to change their identity, this is rather unsuitable.

Is there a way to
1) only use $conf['hooks']['from'] when no identities have been set?
or
2) (uglier) check from within the hooked function whether a user has changed his identity?
