FWIW, I have noticed that c-client is also a common element...

I haven't updated my Horde 2.1/ IMP 3.1 install yet, but I have
Horde-cvs and IMP-cvs also installed on the same box.  I run PHP 4.3.1,
and neither install is having any 'slowness' issues.  

I run Courier IMAP.
