[imp] New user of IMP and glitch that's not in the FAQ

I just installed horde, turba, and IMP today. Horde appears to work great,
as does turba. I've set up IMP to handle my logins so that I don't have to
login twice. And that's where my problem lies. For some reason IMP cannot
talk to my IMAP server. I'm running imap 2001a because of what I read in
the INSTALL file. I can connect from other programs to my IMAP server.
here's the syslog output from the glitch:

Jul 13 16:04:39 [HORDE] [imp] FAILED LOGIN 172.16.144.20 to
localhost:993[imap/ssl/nonvalidate-cert] as dkowis [on line 282 of
"/home/apache/live-htdocs/horde/imp/lib/IMP.php"]

I havent been able to figure this out at all. I've tried using just plain
imap as the server type and port 143 or whatever the default is. Still no
go. I couldn't find anything in the FAQ relating to IMP not being able to
talk to the imap server. Hopefully someone here has had a similar, if not
the same problem, and I just haven't been smart enough to figure it out :)
