I am having the same problems with versions 3.2.2. Where can I get the latest
release of IMP? I do not see this on the website?

Wow, I'm not the only one to do this. :) :)

It's best done in procmail rather than IMP, really.  The harder core among
us do it right in the MTA or with milter [sendmail] so the entire message
doesn't need to be received, thus wasting your bandwidth.

Netscape 7.1 works fine.

Hi, my situation is the next:

Actually, I have configured a horde/imp webmail server called 'webmail' 
to access different servers running sendmail.

This server is running RedHat and the horde 2.1 Framework with IMP 3.1, 
this is working great, but now, I'm going to change this server running 
RedHat for other that is running Libranet 2.8.1.

The problem that I have is that I installed the required packages like 
follows:

#apt-get install apache
#apt-het install php4
#apt-get install php4-imap
#apt-get install php4-mcrypt
#apt-get install uw-imapd
#apt-get install uw-imapd-ssl
#apt-get install horde2
#apt-get install imp3

I configured my servers in servers.php (in my webmail server) but, when 
I run the IMP test  to try to logon in the sendmail server, I just 
receive a message that says :

(with imap)

other webmail server and is the same... what could be happening  ????

We're having some trouble with IMP authentication. In some random times we've

ever heard of something like that?? Do you know of any Microsoft IE Hotfix to
sane this??

I receive emails written in cyrillic:

however when i open them in IMP (inside the frame) all letters are shown as
question marks. Same thing happens when i open it in new window (shift click).
But if i open message source the letters are correctly presented. I just updated
to latest CVS of everything to insure its not a known bug.

does anyone has any ideas how to fix this?

Hi All:

I've searched both the internet and the mailing lists extensively and
haven't found an answer to the problem I'm having so I thought I'd see if
anyone has any insight. I did find the same question posted a while ago but
with no responses. Anyway here's what's happening:

I'm running Horde 2.2.4 and Imp 3.2.2 on a Redhat 7.0 box, php-pgsql
4.2.2-8.0.5, postgresql 7.4-0.2PGDG. Everything works great when I don't try
to enable user preferences, but when I do upon login I get the error
message:

A fatal error has occurred:
DB Error: unknown error
[line 341 of /var/www/html/horde/lib/Prefs/sql.php]
Details have been logged for the administrator.

...the output of the postgres log is:

ERROR:  column "pref_value" is of type text but expression is of type
boolean
HINT:  You will need to rewrite or cast the expression.

The person who posted an equivalent problem also posted a patch involving
casting delhide to a string in mailbox.php, but this does not fix the
problem for me.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem, have this problem, or have

This message of mine above seems to be from a long time ago... anyway, this
problem was confirmed along time ago to be an issue with IE and certain 
service
packs and page compression.  You must turn page compression off sitewide if
using old versions of Horde/IMP (CVS versions will automatically disable
compression for these buggy browsers).

And before you (or someone else) says that they do have page 
compression turned
off, make sure you have page compression turned off EVERYWHERE.  That means in
horde configs, .htaccess files, php.ini, everywhere.  It needs to be 
turned off
everywhere or else pages may/will still get compressed.  We were able to
reproduce this strange behavior locally (although it was by no means easily
reproducible - it was very hit and miss) and it *did* stop when page
compression was turned off correctly.

This (HINT) is exactly what we do (on the PHP level) since Horde 2.2.4.
Either you don't have this version or you have a PEAR DB version that is
broken.

Hi there,

i installed the latest Horde from cvs and configured it from hordes
administration menu. Horde, Trean, Gollem, Kronolith etc were all working fine,
only IMP generated wrong urls, the servername was missing in the url. eg. when
i clicked "Mail" in the menu, i was redirected to
https://:/horde/imp/redirect.php?server_key=imap&actionID=login&autologin=1&frameset=1,
whis is obviously not a valid url. My horde/imp/config/conf.php looked like
this

...
$conf['server'] = array();
$conf['server']['server_list'] = 'none';
$conf['server']['change_server'] = false;
$conf['server']['change_port'] = false;
$conf['server']['change_protocol'] = false;
$conf['server']['change_folders'] = false;
$conf['server']['cache_folders'] = false;
...

I was able to resolve the problem by copying the line "$conf['server']['name'] =
$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'];" from horde/config/conf.php to
horde/imp/config/conf.php, now everything works.

Looks to me like "$conf['server']['name']" from hordes config file gets somehow
"overruled" by imps "$conf['server'] = array();", so imp does not know the name
of the server. "AJ" posted the same problem to the list last week, so this
might be a bug.

By default, RedHat doesn't enable services.  So make sure they are enabled
and running (via chkconfig and/or ps).  Next RedHat by default doesn't
poke holes in tcp_wrappers or iptables for these services.  So make sure
that you are allowing them via wrappers and iptables (or are not running
iptables).

This is a separate issue, but RH by default only runs sendmail listening
on localhost, not on the network.  You need to reconfigure it to get it
to listen on the network, and then again check tcp_wrappers and iptables.

But I think now you are worried about imap and not sendmail, so that may
not matter at this point.

Lots could be happening...  I'd start with making sure the services are
enabled, that they are running, then that wrappers allows them, then that
iptables allows them.

I am in the process of developing a custom horde/imp login to make a 
single login screen for one of two student email servers.  

It is a policy goal of the non-techincal folks to make this process 
transparent to our users, so the server selection boxes and any 
preferred server choosing mechanism.  I have made this work by using php 
code to recreate the "implogin" form and use javascript to submit it to 
the appropriate IMP server hardware.

The concern that I have is that for that brief moment, the password is 
put into a (hidden) form value as plain text.  (Transported via HTTPS.) 

Is there a way to somehow obfuscate that password?   Is there some why 
to preload the session information with that password, so that I don't 
have to give it back to any web page?

I'm dealing with two separate servers that are not sharing session 
information.  (Would there be options that open up if I were to do so?)

I know this isn't fully the "brightest" way to handle this issue, but 
the "political/policy" decisions are non-negoiatable for me.... I'm 
trying to find the best workable solution within these constraints.

The remote IMAP server is running a variant of the cyrus IMAP daemon.

Intermittently, we're seeing odd foo when new accounts send mail
for the first time.  The sent-mail folder doesn't get created until
some unknown magical thing occurs... all messages sent before then
never get saved.

Today, when working with a new user account, a user got these errors
from folders.php:

Ive changed default charset in nls.php to 1251 and can read email properly now.
is this correct behaviour or should IMP have detected the charset?

I made a link between /usr/share/pear/sendmail->/usr/sbin/sendmail, but I
still can't send the email. Then, I copy the /usr/sbin/sendmail to
/usr/share/pear, but it didn't work again :/. I change the file
/horde/config/horde.php to point to the /usr/share/pear/sendmail. The
/usr/share/pear directory is set on safe_mode_include_dir.

Could anyone help me please ? I need to put Horde/IMP working with safe_mode
on.

I am using the 'Report as Spam' button for email to be fed to the Bayes 
in SpamAssassin.

I found that headers were being added to my mail so i wrote a quick 
script to strip a Maildir full of 'Report as Spam' of their unnecessary 
headers and have them ready to be fed into sa-learn.

I have attached the script if it is useful to anyone.

I assume you are using IMP 3.x filtering - if so, you should escape those
characters with a backslash (i.e. if you want to search for [, you 
should enter
'\[' in the search string).

Or you could take a look at the following config option (via 'man
Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf'):

        bayes_ignore_header
            If you receive mail filtered by upstream mail systems, like a spam-
            filtering ISP or mailing list, and that service adds new headers
            (as most of them do), these headers may provide inappropriate cues
            to the Bayesian classifier, allowing it to take a "short cut". To
            avoid this, list the headers using this setting.  Example:

                    bayes_ignore_header X-Upstream-Spamfilter
                    bayes_ignore_header X-Upstream-SomethingElse

Is this still a problem?  Can anyone else besides Eric confirm this?  If so,

No, this is not the correct solution. I can't tell you more if you don't
supply more information, but the messages might be malformed or your
iconv/mbstring support might be broken.

Just to avoid confusion: ShowStoppers are not show stoppers for the release,
but for starting the release process.

When we moved the webmail from a Java environment to IMP we had the same 
problem. I modified IMP (lib/IMP.php) so that instead of a password 
people can login with an encrypted password for a limited amount of time.

   I know this has been asked many times, but none of the previously 
made answers solved my problem: httpd hangs up when trying to access the 
"Folders" link of IMP, whereas I can access the Sent and Trash folders 
using the drop down list.
   I've got a very simple configuration: apache 2.0.48 + horde 2.2.4 + 
imp 3.2. I am using gnu mailutils imap4d 0.4.
   My servers.php file contains the following:

$servers['imap'] = array(
     'name' => 'IMAP Server',
     'server' => 'localhost',
     'protocol' => 'imap/notls',
     'port' => 143,
     'folders' => 'imapmail/',
     'namespace' => '',
     'maildomain' => 'example.com',

   When no ~/imapmail exists, I *CAN* access the "Folders" link, but as 
soon as ~/imapmail is created (by sending or deleting a mail from IMP or

I notice you committed a fix to the CVS to wrap the message text
correctly in the spell check window:

In your fix, spelling.php passes the message text from the compose
window through Text::wrap(). This means that the message text is
word-wrapped at least twice during the process of spell checking and
sending a message. This becomes a problem if, for example, you change a
misspelt word using the "or" box to a longer word; the line becomes
longer and is wrapped again at a different point. On returning to the
compose window you then need to reformat the message text to remove the
unwanted newlines.

Can I suggest that the patch posted by Andrew Morgan on the 11 Nov 03
provides a better solution to the problem. In his solution, only the
text displayed on the spell check window is word-wrapped, and not the
form value eventually passed back to compose.php. See:

Im currently using Horde/IMP 3.2.2 and everything works perfectly (*cheers*). 
Now i would like to grant to some users only the possibilty to use IMP (on 
the other side, others can still use POP/IMAP standard access method). In 
order to do that, i would like to add a field to my mySQL data to check this 
flag at login. Regarding to the auth part, Hord is configured to let IMP do 
the job. I just want only one login but indeed i do not know how to configure 
IMP to get that result ... i even dont know if thats possible. Could anyone 
give please some clue regarding to this? Can i configure IMP to let Hord do 
the auth job without getting another login prompt in IMP? :)

The next major release of IMP will at least support appledouble and
uuencode. It should also be easy to support other formats through the
extendable mime viewer framework.
I am not sure what you mean with mime/base64.

That is good news.  I am running the CVS HEAD version which I setup 
mid-december 2003--I installed that after hearing the CVS HEAD 
supported Mac attachments.  The appledouble icon is shown in IMP and 
when clicking it another window is opened and the file is downloaded 
and it can be opened from with the application (Quark) but not by 
double clicking it.  The downloaded file is missing the icon data 
(resource data?)

Mime/Base64 is referred to as a "Windows" attachment in the Outlook 
Express I used for testing.

Can you tell me more about "extendable mime viewer framework" or point 
me to a page to read more.

Ummm.... I would really like to see these messages, because all the encoding
formats you have listed are handled by Horde (following the specific RFCs).

Additionally, it would be great if you could explain in your boxes _what_ is
incorrectly being displayed.  I notice that if *any* of the following "fail",
you put a "No" down with no explanation:

     * Ability to download the attachment.
     IMP provides a download link to _every_ attachment, so obviously this can
     not be where the tests are failing.

     * The file name is correct.
     I have not found a message that does not have its filename correctly
     displayed on the screen.  Now, if you are talking about what the *browser*
     is trying to save the attachment as (in the Save As dialog box), you are
     talking about a whole other
     topic, namely broken browsers, not broken webmail applications.  I assume
     that Mail.app is a local mail application on Macs - if so, this is
     somewhat of an unfair comparison you are making.  I should surely 
hope that
     a native Mac application can correctly save messages on the local system.
     But when you are working with cross-platform browsers, it is much more
     difficult to try to
     predict what any one kind of browser will do.  We have workarounds 
for many
     broken browsers, but without you telling us what browser you are using for
     these tests or if this is whatis failing, it is difficult to understand
     or fix what is wrong.

     * The icon for the file type was visible and correct.
     Now this is *truly* an unfair comparison/test.  You are expecting 
a webmail
     application to understand ALL of your _local_ file type settings.  You
     obviously are expecting way too much from a cross-platform application.
     We show icons
     for the most common file types (i.e. images, compressed files), but can't
     be expected to show images for all possible file types.  Macintosh 
Mail.app
     will obviously win since it has access to a much larger database of
     OS-specific file types/icons.  For example, we sure don't have an icon
     specific to Quark Express,since how often do people get a Quark Express
     attachment in the mail (obviously, if you are in some kind of publishing
     business, you will receive this much more often, but those people are in
     the minority).  I personally think that "failing" an application because
     it doesn't show the correct icon is an awfully weak test of webmail
     performance.

     * Double clicking on the file opens the file correctly and in the correct
application.
     If, after downloading a file, this test doesn't work, then your message is
     corrupt.  This has nothing to do with webmail viewing.  I have never seen
     IMP fail on this kind of test unless the data is corrupt - IMP is simply
     sending the data it sees in the message.

Notes about specific encoding formats:

appledouble:
I am looking at an appledouble message in IMP right now.  Horde/IMP supports
multipart/appledouble messages just fine as long as they are in RFC 1740
format.

MIME/Base64:
This is the most common method of sending e-mail attachments, so IMP has
supported this encoding since the very beginning.  So obviously, it is
something else causing this test to "fail" on your system but without further
details, it is difficult to comment any more.

UUencode:
IMP works just fine with UUencode data - make sure that this line appears in
imp/config/mime_drivers.php:
$mime_drivers['imp']['plain']['uuencode'] = true;

It would be great to help you out, but I am a bit doubtful that IMP truly does
"fail" in all of your tests, or that you are expecting too much from a
cross-platform, centralized email system.  As mentioned above, if you could
give further details as to why each test failed, that would help a bunch.

I have to admit my primary development environment is Mac OS X Panther, and
Apple Mail is my primary email client.  I have not had any problems in
working with IMP (even quite old versions), to do anything at all, ever!

AppleDouble encoding basically sends two files, as the attachment.  Outlook
and Outlook Express don't handle this, but you can still download the
correct file (the larger of the two).  This is what the current version of
IMP does.  I don't see a problem with this.

It's also quite possible to add data-types, and therefore icons to the Horde
framework which will then display them.  Again, not all desktop based
mailers handle such esoteric attachments correctly either!

Hi Micheal,

First off I have been pushing for Horde/Imp at this and other 
clients--I think it is excellent and the best I have used. My use of 
failed is harsh term, but the requirements by my client are harsh--you 
are correct I am asking for too much of cross-platform web-based 
client. Personally I think that the my client (large printer) should 
handle this issue two ways: use business systems to communicate what 
file transmission forms are acceptable from Macs (BinHex and Stuffed) 
in email for production, and, two use Mac OS X Mail.app which is proven 
to work for production email purposes. I have told them this, yet they 
want to convert completely to webmail someday and see this as the first 
step.

My sincerest apologies for leaving out the browser: Safari.  I did 
several tests with Internet Explorer and Opera with similar results.

I'll setup an account within Horde/IMP with these test messages for you 
to see as well as send you the raw messages if you like.  I'd prefer to 
send these in private.  I'll also answer a number of the questions you 
raised above,  I need some time to review my notes.

It seems this is of interest to the Horde team and I am happy to 
provide any input I can.

I'm using IMP 3.2.2 with horde 2.2.4 on debian.
My mail servers uses the Maildir format. I can see my inbox just fine, 
but not any of my folders. Anything I can do to fix this?

I have this happening with Mozilla 1.6 with compression turned off
almost everywhere (I don't have it done in .htaccess).  Moreover I
have a mail spool where it happens all the time, so it's more than
easily reproducible.  I'll try .htaccess, but I don't put much hope on
that... :-(

And they don't think that is good enough.

By Icons I meant once downloaded and on the desktop/HD in Panther, not 
in IMP.

This is frustrating because I have alarmed you guys, and sounding like 
a complainer, but I am in agreement with you on all accounts. You've 
done a great job.

If I had to sum it up I am trying to get to point that I can move on 
and finish the setup of their webmail system or learn I am doing 
something wrong or further developments may make it better.

I need the bounds of operation--and if I need to gather more data I 
will.

Here is an example I was provided: a Quark Express file named '4.25 x 
4.5' no extension sent from a customer running OS 9 or something old 
like that, with little text in the email explaining it and they expect 
their prepress to be able to open the document flawlessly. If this was 
received in an Apple Mail application all would be fine--the attachment 
would be saved on the HD and it would have the Quark Express icon and 
when they double click the file it opens in Quark Express.

If this example email were opened in IMP there would be the box:
This message contains a Macintosh file.

The Macintosh resource fork can be downloaded HERE.

And clicking HERE will open a window then file is downloaded. The 
downloaded file on the HD has blank icon and double clicking it brings 
up the dialog box asking what application to use to open it. The monkey 
in prepress doesn't know what application to open in it because the 
sender didn't inform them.

It is my understanding that the data in the resource fork of the Mac 
file is what enables the icon of the file on the HD to have the icon 
from the program it is meant to be opened in.  But I do not understand 
how these get reassembled and if IMP is supposed to be doing this and 
if anything else in the resource fork is not there.

I recently installed an LCD monitor for 2 users and they changed the
font size on the windows settings to large font.  The screens are set to
1280 x 1024.  Ever since then the font in mail has become smaller on the
screen and also when printing.  Is there a way to adjust that by user?

   I'm  in  the scene with multiple virtual host configured on my
apache  server  and I want a single horde/imp installation with a
customized  horde/imp  login screen for each virtual domain. Imap
authentication work fine with virtual users like user@domain1 and
user@domain2.

   Does anybody have a good starting point (url, howto, etc.) for
this particular situation ??

do some load balancing stuff in the future. I have installed Fedora Core 1,
Apache 2.0.48, Qmail, MySQL 5.0, PHP 4.3.5RC3, proftpd. I got the Horde CVS
source and the framework. I ran the framework install. I was able to login
using ftp as an authentication mode. I got imp from CVS. I copied the .dist
file and then I modified servers.php. I then tried to go into the
administration and generate a conf.php/xml and it didnt' work. Even with
default options here's what I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: verify() in
/usr/local/lib/php/Horde/Form.php on line 452


Any ideas?

While I understand that this problem has found to be related to 
compression, I've continued to check my system for evidence of 
compression being turned on. Here's what I've checked so far:

php.ini:
egrep 'compress' php.ini -- zlib.output_compression = Off

All .htaccess files: In /var/www/horde contain only the line -- Deny
from all. No php_admin_values are set in any .htaccess files.

In /horde/config/horde.php:
egrep 'compress' horde.php -- horde.php:$conf['compress_pages'] = false;

I see no settings for compression anywhere in the /horde/imp/config 
directory. 

Is there anything that I might have missed? This problem continues for 
many of our users.

This is where it's checking form tokens. You're getting back an error when it
tries to instantiate a Horde_Token object for some reason - do a

Is there something I can run from the command line to see what the value of that
veriable is? I'm not the best PHP programmer. Could i have enabled tokens and
not set something up right? grrrr

I think I'll just try a fresh CVS installation. Maybe I screwed something up
when I did the web based config of Horde?

First of all, IMP knows nothing of maildir, mbox, or anything else.

/etc/imp3/servers.php and set

not sure what the logic was, but the preview is not working properly, at least
for the inline (non-tooltip) version.

line 710 in imp/mailbox.php, why does this line strip out ' ' and replace them
with &nbsp;?
   $msg['preview'] = str_replace(' ', '&nbsp;', $msg['preview']);

the end result is a mailbox screen which runs off 18 screens scrolls to the
right.

or maybe it was a typo in line 708? is it supposed to read:
   if ($preview_tooltip) {
(note lack of '!' test)
this would fix the error that crops up saying that $strip_preview is not
defined, since in line 397 it is only defined if $preview_tooltip is true but
then it is used in 709 when $preview_tooltip is false...

i tried following chora's annotations but couldn't figure out what was the
thinking behind the code. so if you could help out, thanks.

Yes, I'm using the PHP package that came with Fedora.  If they following are
not on your system, you can install them via up2date.

$ rpm -qa |grep php
php-4.3.4-1.1
php-ldap-4.3.4-1.1
php-mysql-4.3.4-1.1
php-imap-4.3.4-1.1

I did have to add several PEAR modules (via 'pear install <modulename>').

Hi all,

my first post.

I have used horde/imp for some time on SME Server in which it comes
preconfigured "out of the box".  After realizing several limitations with
this distro, I opted for Suse 9 and I have been very happy and successful in
all aspects, until now.  I have installed horde, imp, mysql, php, apache2,
postgresql, and so forth, I can 'see' horde login page, the test for horde
is good, but I cannot login to either horde or imp. I can log into mysql,
php works, but I cannot seem to do anything with postgresql, I can start the
service, but I suspect there is more configuration to do here.

Could anyone point me in the right direction so I can login???

When it works; i intend to document a 'walk through' for all to access to
assist others.

I updated from CVS HEAD this morning and, while the show/hiding subsubscribed
folders works a lot better, I found another problem (which occurs regardless of
the "subscribe" preference value):

With a folder hierarchy a/b/c/d, the folder navigator will only display a '+'
sign for folders in the hierarchy down to the level the folder hierarchy was
last expanded.

For example, if I expand the a/b/c/d hierarchy "part-way", so that it looks like
this:

   +-a
     |
     +-b
       |
       +-c

and then logout of my session, upon entering the folder navigator in my next
session the hierarchy will look like this:

   +-a
     |
     +-b
       |
       --c

That is, 'a/b/c' appears to be the leaf node in the tree, and cannot be
expanded.  Clicking "expand all" will re-expand everything, causing "a/b/c/d"
to reappear.  Clicking on "collapse-all", then logging-out/logging-in, will
result in 'a' appearing to be a leaf node that cannot be expanded.

I updated from CVS HEAD today (first update for a couple of weeks) and noticed
that when I first go to the folder list, there is no expand icon in front of
Inbox (under which all of my folders appear). If I click "expand all", I can
see all of the folders and the collapse icon appears in front of Inbox. If I
collapse the tree, the expand icon appears. The icon remains and works
properly throughout my session, until I log out and log back in.

everything up, the only problem with the whole install is this:

The IMP folder page shows only INBOX

I have about 15 folders under mail/ directory, and they are present on both the
portal page and in the drop-down, so IMP knows about them.  They just do not
show up on the folder page.  If I expand/collapse all, the icon changes from
plus to minus but no new folders show up.

My servers.php config has not changed, and I even tried deleting the sql row in
horde_prefs for "expanded_folders" (can't remember the name) - that didn't
help.
Also tried disabling "Use IMAP folder subscriptions" with no effect.

I believe pear came with Fedora, as part of PHP. I don't recall explicitly
installing it. It may have come from the IMP or Horde rpm files I used for my
original imp installation.

I started out using the imapd that ships with Fedora, but I switched to
DoveCot.  It's supposed to be faster and more secure than the standard imap
and pop daemons.  It's free.

At best an (unchanged) example message. At least the full headers, if you
have the iconv/mbstring extensions installed, if other charsets work fine,

As clarified in another email--the browser I am testing with is Safari 
on OS X 10.3.2. The file names were always correct with IMP. On tests 
using Opera and Internet Explorer I had similar results, but chose to 
limit  to Safari.

Icon as it it appears once downloaded to the HD, which I believe is 
related to the resource form data being included/reintegrated in the 
download. With most files the icon shown on the local computer is 
designated by the files extension (OS X is moving this way now as 
well), but with old Mac files this data or metadata is in the resource 
fork.

When downloaded using IMP the data is OK but if the icon is missing 
that implies that the resource fork may not have been properly brought 
along and then what else may be missing from the resource fork that is 
important.

Same message opened with Mail.app and double clicking the file opens it 
in the right application, with IMP the file can be opened but only by 
the 'Fiile Open' menu in the application.  Again I agree it may not be 
a fair test--but I am tasked to see if can work.

I'd like to better understand how IMP is recombining the resource and 
data fork with Mac attachments.

I am beginning to think is the one encoding format I need to focus on.  
I'll take a look at this RFC, see it if the client I used to send 
Outlook Express meets it and if not runs some tests with one that does.

The file does download with the correct name and it can be opened from 
within the application. But the icon as discussed above is not there.

It was 'false' I changed it to 'true' and tried again. The file did not 
download but only opened the raw ascii iin the IMP window.  I believe 
you pointed out elsewhere that this file looked corrupt, so I can chalk 
that up to the client not doing the encoding correctly.  The data that 
is shown when clinking on the IMP download link:

This makes sense at a first glance and according to the manual this setting
can be changed with ini_set().

But I bet it won't work, because the whole deal of this setting is, that the
session is started during the request startup *before* the page loads. For
this reason, you can't store objects in the session if you use this
feature. Changing this setting during the page execution shouldn't change
anything, or did you make other experiences?

Wouldn't setting the option in the <VirtualHost> sections be the right place
then?  Those sections apply just prior to the first byte being sent down the
wire, even for Name-based vhosts.

We've been tortured by these issues as well (as a primarily Mac campus
implementing webmail).

IMP is *not* recombining the resource and data fork.  It's just
offering downloads of both sub parts of the multipart/appledouble
MIME part.

IMP makes no attempt to recombine these parts, nor should it; since
the user retrieving the attachment might not be a Mac user.  A *nix or
Windows user can't do much with a multi-forked appledouble file.

Perhaps Mac web browsers will someday have the capability of
reassembling multipart/appledouble MIME attachments (in the same way
that Mac mail clients do).  But they don't do it now.  And until a Mac
web browser can reintegrate a multipart/appledouble MIME attachment then
I think our best bet is to tweak IMP so that it only offers up links to
the data fork of multipart/appledouble MIME attachments.

In a webmail context, offering up both parts of a multipart/appledouble
MIME attachment *only* confuses the vast majority of users.

Dropping the resource fork is problematic since Mac users historically
haven't had to make use of file extensions.   But I don't see a better
solution.

Try to get your users to use an archiver (stuffit, maczip, etc), if you

Thanks for the clarification Ben. I agree with you on getting the users 
to archive the attachments. But one the the reasons many designers use 
the Mac is because they are not technical and asking them to do one 
more thing may just cause them to work with someone who doesn't--or at 
least so I have been told.

How are users on your campus taking to having to Archive Mac 
attachments in order to email them?

I'm having lots of problems with the latest version of IMP/Horde.

I've looked through everything and found no results. I checked test.php with 
says everything is OK, and on the archives I found nothing.

I get OK to the login screen but when I try to log in, it sends me back to the 
same screen with no changes (no error message of any kind). I the apache 
errors I get this:

Didn't really look at session.autostart fully but guess that it does cause a
problem. 

Obviously its not going to make any difference setting that for the duration of
the script execution.

*mental note - read EXACTLY what the setting does before suggesting how to
change it*

I hope you'll understand if I don't take you up on that bet :)

I have installed horde and imp and I'm looking to just get it going.  
Problem I'm running into is that IMAP is saying that I have a self signed 
cert.  I know that I can specify novalidate-cert somewhere in servers.php3, 
but I'm really not sure where.  Could somebody please post their file for me 
to borrow from?  I left verbose off of the message but here's the basics on 
my setup:

That is a very, very old version of IMP. I don't know that it *is* possible to
specify novalidate-cert and have it work correctly with 2.2. If it is, you'll
do it in the 'protocol' string in the servers file. But you're pretty much on
your own here.

I think someone posted to the mailing list a year or two ago about
how to make it work.  I think they had to change 2 or 3 files to make
it all work correctly.  But my memory could be fuzzy on those details.

OK, found the problem. Aparently, becuase I was using $conf['use_ssl'] = 2 in 
horde.php, when I try to log in using http I get these problems.

Added the redirection comands in httpd.conf to have ssl conections and now it 
works great.

But I thought that putting this option to "use only https conections" would 
redirect me to https conections instead of staying in plain http ones.

Well, it's solved. :-)

Hello,

I upgraded via cvs yesterday March 5th. I noticed that when I go to my folders,
the graphic, in the folders view, does not show any sub directories. I have to
click on "expand all", then they will appear. This is confusing the users.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am running HORDE, IMP, etc with a sync via CVS on March 5th
I am running Cyrus 2.2.3, PHP 4.3.4, Apache 2.0.48

This is a known problem that i am trying to fix.  the problem stems 
from trying
to determine whether to show an expand/collapse icon next to a folder or not -
but it is made way more complicated when you are dealing with cached 
items and,
more importantly, subscribed vs. unsubscribed folders.  this has turned out to
be a really, really, really difficult problem that I am still working on.

There we scripts provided to migrate data (e.g. address book data) from
IMP 2.2.x to Horde2/IMP3/Turba1.  You need to use those scripts to
stop from "loosing" your data.

See the old archives, or the instructions with the first release of
Horde 2.x/IMP 3.x.

I noticed, when showing unsuscribed folders, the tree is _not_ restricted to
'mail/' ($servers['imap']['folder']) as I want to, but shows _all_ files and

I'am using Horde 2.2.4, IMP 3.2.3 and PEAR 1.3 (from Horde). With "Internet
Explorer" Horde is always in english. If I start Horde with for example Lynx,
Horde is in my "user preferred" language. Must I change any configurations for
IE language support?

Any Ideas?

Since you're working on this code:

These instructions worked for me, however there was a price to pay:
INBOX is no longer shown on the folder page - instead the mail/ hierarchy is
shown, including the mail/ parent directory.

Once again, INBOX shows up in the drop down and even in horde summary (owing to
my old db settings), but not on the folder page.

If I add "mbox" (which on my system is in home dirs) to my .mailboxlist, then
"mbox" shows up, and the drop down gets both INBOX and mbox.

It seems to me that this is not the intended behavior?

   Just updated CVS, and it looks like HTML composition does not work.. 
I have IMP set to use HTML composition, and the HTML editor does not 
appear anymore, and if I click the link for switching to text based 
composition, it brings me to my inbox.  I tried w/ both Firefox and IE.

Hello,

I'm having a lot of problems with Imp just logging users out at random.
I've been thinking that this might be a session related problem, so I've
tweaked the lifetime of sessions to be an entire day, garbage collection is
a 1 in a million chance etc.

Can anyone think of any other factors that could be causing this?

We are running a courier IMAP mail server - could it be losing connection
with that?  Would IMP log you out if this was the case?

For some reason, on one of our imp installations, when we try attaching a
file in the compose window, after clicking on attach, the window refreshes
with the text "Added an attachment" at the top of the window, but the
attached filename does not display at the bottom of the window under
"Attachments" and the message sent has no attachment.

I've been searching the mailing list archives, and I see this is pretty
much a FAQ, but I've verified all the usual suspects that I'm aware of.

The file is uploaded to the web server in /var/tmp.  php.ini's
upload_tmp_dir = /var/tmp
horde/config/horde.php's $conf['tmpdir'] = '/var/tmp/';

The system is Red Hat 8.0, Red Hat's 4.2.2-8.0.8.  I'm not seeing any
errors either in the apache error_log or syslog, during any part of the
compose/attach/send process.  My test attachment file (/etc/hosts) is
quite small (<200 bytes).

IMP version?  What kind of session handling are you using?

No.  PHP breaks the connection to the IMAP server at the end of each request
(i.e. there is no persistent IMAP connections) so the connection to the IMAP
server is completely irrelevant.

I definitely can't reproduce this.  And this makes no sense since, if using
inline display, all the text will be in the subject column of the table, and
this column is *not* marked as nowrap, so the browser should wrap any text -
there should be no screen scrolling.  I have tried enabling previews and
setting strip linebreaks to on, and all of the preview text fits just fine in
the Subject column (i.e. no scrolling to the left) - i'm using both IE 6 and
Firefox 0.8.

There was an issue if using tooltip previews and having strip 
linebreaks set to
on where the preview may end up scrolling offscreen.  To prevent this from
happening, I have changed the logic to not honor the strip linebreak 
setting if
using tooltip previews (or maybe this should be changed in the JS code to wrap
the text if it is going to end up offscreen?).

The line you have identified above most definitely needs to remain there - it
allows e-mails that are using spaces for formatting to be displayed properly
(i.e. this line:
"Hello world!"
is not the same as this line:
"Hello       world!"
But without the above line, both output lines would be displayed the same)

Yeah, this was a slight problem with my logic around line 397 and has been
fixed.  But it was not a problem with the logic at line 708 - we only want to
do that stuff if we are using non-tooltips.  Tooltip text gets formatted
differently, and is handled completely by Horde::linkTooltip().
