  This is now also available in the RELENG_3 branch. Please note that you need the
  iconv, better the mbstring extension in PHP to see any difference.

+ OK, I downloaded the latest RELENG_3, but I got an error out $output not being 
+ declared. I commented out the code that checked whether to use iconv or 
+ mbstring, to force mbstring usage and it works ok. I currently do not have 
+ access to the served to give you details, but I will post them here on Monday.
