-Zusammenfassung:
multipart/alternative and 8-bit transfer encoding

Kommentar von daniel.eckl at gmx.de am Thu Apr 29 06:57:50 2004 (heute):
Condition:
- Mail with Content-Type: multipart/alternative
- Text part has these headers:
  Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
  Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
- Text contains 8-bit chars like german umlauts

Problem:
- When viewing a mail which meets the conditions above, the 8-bit-chars are
not translated into the charset of the HTML page (utf-8 in my case), but
remains in html source code unencoded.

Result:
- These 8-bit chars are shown wrong (e.g. as question marks white-on-black
or as black squares, depending on font and browser used)

Furter insights:
- When replying to such a mail, the 8-bit chars are converted correctly and
filled into the multi-line input field without problems
- When having such a text part in a multipart/mixed mail, the chars are
converted correctly
- When having a mail which is not multipart but only text/plain and
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit it is viewed fine, too.
