Chucks point that "sticking to that small set of accesskeys... is going to
make accesskeys not so useful" has merit. At the same time, how useful are
the access keys if they interfere with the normal browsing experience
expected by end users? A user's time is wasted when they inadvertently
activate links when really trying to keyboard navigate to their browser's
menu, let alone the wasted server bandwidth.
The "D" key is the most egregious. Mozilla and IE use that key for getting
to the location bar and there is no other way to get there via keyboard
navigation. The other keys can be worked around by the hastle of
remembering to type ALT (or whatever) separately from the access key.
Also, even if you choose not to be bound to using only the free access keys,
the patch still provides a helpful improvement by eliminating conflicts here
and now.
