Here my set of actions:

1. Selecting 'File Manager' in the left menu
2. Select a backend from the drop-down in the content part

Now i got another left-menu.

After choosing a backend and selecting the 'File Manager' 
from the menu again (not important from which of the left menus)
the page gets loaded again and all needless menues are gone.

If it will help i can give you a testaccount on my installation?
