1. Fail with a more descriptive error message. I was able  to track the
problem because I have access to the log file., but non-admins  will not
figure out what's wrong with the calendar.

2. Truncate the offending field and import the calendar issuing a warning 
that indicates that  condition.

I think that option 2 is better. I prefer to have my remote calendar
imported with  some fields truncated than  not having it.
