Yes it does.  It will only work though if the *entire* message is encrypted
or signed.  If an embedded MIME part is encrypted, than the icon is not
shown.  I.e. this message is marked as encrypted:
multipart/signed
  text/plain
  application/pgp-signature

and this one is not
multipart/mixed
  multipart/signed
    text/plain
    application/pgp-signature
  text/plain
