The $live parameter in the upgrade script doesn't do anything. You confirm
the change later anyway, and setting $live to false simply halts the script.
Either use $live = false to show the admin what would happen, but don't
apply any changes, or drop it completely.

I don't understand what the display_type is for, and the explanation in
sources.php doesn't help much either.
