I am running IMP 4.04 with a local Cyrus IMAP 2.1.18 server and had the same
problem.  In my case, the fix was to set both folders and namespace to ''. 
Note that the documentation within servers.php seems to suggest a value of
'INBOX.' be used for either the "folders" or the "namespace" variables when
using Cyrus-IMAP.  In terms of defaults, this means changing the default
namespace value listed for 'Cyrus IMAP Server' from 'INBOX.' to ''.
