the only thing amiss with the slapd log is

bdb_modrdn: wr to children of entry ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com
OK
bdb_modrdn: parent dn=ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com
bdb_modrdn: new parent "ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com"
requested...
bdb_back_modrdn: new parent "ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com" same
as the old parent "ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com"

and horde says simply

Nov 28 19:34:37 HORDE [error] [turba] cn=Gordon
Anderson,ou=addressbook,uid=aje,dc=rectang,dc=com [on line 83 of
"/usr/share/horde3/turba/edit.php"]
