OK, this is strange. With the latest versions of Horde and IMP, but Turba
2.0.2, the dot isn't prepended, but when moving to the Subject field, a
pop-up window appears which says something along the lines of "Unable to
expand To: field".

Moving to the latest release of Turba, 2.0.5 makes the original problem
occur again. Note that this problem only occurs when hitting the Enter key,
and does not occur when hitting the Tab key to move from field to field.
