I had a similar problem with a newly upgraded horde/imp system.  I use
dovecot as my IMAP server.  In order to see my folder list in the left
sidebar I had to change my imp/config/servers.php configuration and set my 

folders => '',

where it was previously set to 

folders => 'mail/'

I havent changed or updated dovecot nor anything else on this box aside from
horde/imp.
