Apache/PHP crashes are always apache or php bugs - we might trigger it, but
nothing we can do about it unless it _always_ causes a crash across
multiple platforms, in which case of course we need to work around it.

Also, it sort of sounds like you're using a threaded apache, which might
not be the best idea.
