Unfortunately, this issue is dealing with the *smtp* backend rather than
the sendmail backend.
But as previously described, as far as i can tell we (and the PEAR
libraries) are correctly prefixing a single period with another period -
and it is the SMTP server's responsiblity to strip this leading period.
So this bug should still be closed since there is nothing we can do about
this.
