Looking at this for a few minutes, it does seem that the only reason this
would not work is if the cache files are off.  As mentioned before, it
really doesn't matter whether this index exists or not - as long as it
doesn't exist at the end of the unset() call, that is all we care about. 
So silencing the error message turns out to be just fine here.
