attached patch adds the references back to Mnemo's factory and I also
ported the initialize() code from Nag to Mnemo.

In the future the sql driver could move all of its connect() calls into
initialize().

I was unable to trigger the display of the error messag neither in Nag nor
in Mnemo, guess we need some more error handling.
