I see, so the next month would include both its 4th friday, and the
previous months 4th friday, and you'd end up with two events in the same
month.

The recurrence I'm after is the nth x-day of the month, including the
possibility of counting backwards from the end of the month (which would
provide the 'last friday' functionality). It would be very useful, perhaps
I'll have a look at the code. I'm not a programmer though, so I doubt I'll
be able to do it!
