I made it 8192 bytes without the usleep. I guess we could make it 4mb and
maybe get in under the default 8mb memory limit? I didn't include the
usleep because you didn't have it in your original code and it didn't
"smell" right to me (won't work on windows either).

Thanks for all your work on this! I'm closing the ticket but things can
still be tweaked of course.
