Here's some new behavior I noticed:
1. I receive a message - get notified, but the message doesn't show up.
2. I receive a second message - get notified.  The prior message shows  
up in the list, but the new one does not.
3. The number of new messages shown paranthesis is always consistent  
with the number of new messages I have.
