Can you login if you point the browser instead of Thunderbird to that URL?
How did you set up authentication, which authentication backend do you  
use, do you have realms, vinfo or username hooks enabled, etc?
Beside that, the log shows that the events of the user "admin" are  
being read, so authentication succeeds. What makes you think that it  
doesn't?
