compose a new message, uncheck  "HTML Composition" to compose as text.  
Enter some text in the body of the message and click on "save as  
draft". Go to Draft folder and resume the previously save message.

the body is text, the html editor is disabled, but "HTML Composition"  
is checked. If sending this message, it will be sent as an html message.
