I think I found the cause: I had the option "Poll all folders for new  
mail" in the "Folder display" section enabled. When this is enabled,  
Virtual Inbox displays unread mail in all folders, even those marked  
for not polling (a setting that is temporary, as described in bug  
#10351). With that option disabled, only unread mail from the folders  
marked for polling is displayed.
