I think I was a bit unclear.  My concern is more of whether we should  
be (essentially) cancelling support for a browser that still has 3%  
market share.  Just because we can push those users to a minimal view  
that works doesn't mean that's what we SHOULD be doing.

It's really a question of whether we believe we will alienate users  
that are using an (admittedly) older browser vs. whether it is  
acceptable to explain to them that their browser is old, they should  
upgrade, and they will be unable to use the richer interface until  
they do.
