So here's my attempt to a patch to  
/usr/share/php5/PEAR/Horde/Core/ActiveSync/Driver.php and a  
corresponding prefs.d file (who's contents ought to be merged into  
prefs.php in case your accepting the patch?)

Tests here work fine so far.
