AFAICT, it's the LDAP code that's using the ldap settings - but the  
Kolab code seems somehow to rely on the LDAP code for some of its  
functionality, i.e. the global address book.

Indeed, I should have made that configurable. The upcoming patch will  
contain the according code change.
