This is definitely not a bug. Because sorting alphabetically makes
zero sense when displaying e-mail results.
This has been discussed before (on the lists perhaps) but briefly:
there is no guarantee that contacts have a first/last name, or that
this information is added correctly, so sorting by these fields
strictly alphabetically is not going to provide the correct results.
And sorting by e-mail address obviously makes no sense for a variety
of reasons (the "mailbox" portion of an email address often has
little/no correlation to a person's real name).
This isn't a close call. If you really want to change the sorting
order, you can do so by directly altering the code.
