Michael,

I did more testing using two different phones.  One with Android 4.2.2  
and another iPhone.  It seem that the problem is only limited to the  
Android 2.3.6 phone.  On the other two phones, when the keyboard  
appears, the bottom bar slides up to move just above the top of the  
keyboard and above that is the text box.  However, on Android 2.3.6  
phone, this does not happen.  Again, when the keyboard is dismissed,  
on the two working phones, the bottom bar reappears at the bottom.

I suspect this is a bug in Android OS or maybe like you said in  
jQueryMobile but with this level of OS.  I did search the jquery site  
for similar bugs and didn't find anything close to this.  Also, I  
don't think I can report this to jquery because I don't have enough  
understanding of the programming behind it to either report or respond  
if they ask for code sample, etc..

For now, I will have to live with this one I think unless you have any  
other suggestions..  Thanks.
