without any shares, due to a policy.  I turned sharing off in conf.php:

$conf['share']['no_sharing'] = true;
$conf['share']['auto_create'] = true;
$conf['share']['world'] = false;
$conf['share']['any_group'] = false;
$conf['share']['hidden'] = false;

Despite that I can still share my calendar with others, even read/write.
