Revisiting this.  This behavior, as implemented, is completely  
unintuitive.  I selected all messages in a mailbox, unset the seen  
flag, and the selection disappeared.  Completely not what I expected  
... and I'm the one that wrote this change.

It does appear that we will have to instead implement what I  
originally didn't want to ... special behavior.  But now that I've  
seen/used the alternative, it is the better choice.
