My first shot in the dark was that the session data somehow got corrupted.
But that was not true, I was able to decrypt the Horde_Secret  
encrypted password manually.
So something else broke down, but it didn't happen again yet.

Now I've written a small script that controls Firefox and clicks  
through all the horde apps
in the top navigation bar. I'll let that run for a few hours and see  
if it breaks or not.
