You're right, it works as expected if the search term is not a tag.

Search for a tag, and you get past and future events under both the  
"past" and "future" tabs.

I tried this on my own horde server (5.2.15) as well as on one of  
Germany's large university Horde servers where I have a normal user  
account. Attached are two screenshots (in 1 PDF file) from the latter  
which demonstrate that searching for the tag 'testtag' fetches a past  
and a future event and lists them under both the 'past' and 'future'  
tabs.
