it seems that '__tags' should not be set to null before calling save() .

I see the dilemma with unwanted deletion of certain contact attributes  
via CardDAV. But from my point of view there are more users managing  
their contacts data through a client than via web frontend.
Maybe it is easier to offer a settings option for disallowing deletion  
through carddav ...
