  Log:
  - implement filtering. filtering is all serverside for now, so not the
  best, but it could be worse and it works.
  - comment out SplitPane for now, it's not reliable enough yet.
  - refactor ViewPort to only take up ViewPort in global namespace
  - refactor handling of viewport containers and move empty container into main
  Viewport code (will show regardless of whether we're filtering if the view
  is empty).
