  Log:
  Trying to improve the gd version of this effect...not much luck yet.
  Remove a bunch of stuff that makes no sense, redundant loops, useless alpha channel settings etc...
  Looks like I can get a nice, smooth, shadow that doesn't play well with rounded corners *or* I can get one that plays well, but doesn't fade properly....
