My idea for this was to have a full div, that spanned the width of the  
page underneath the gallery header, containing the controls -  
including perhaps some quick action links, some explanatory text, etc  
- giving all of it a lot more room. It should also be controlled by a  
collapsed/expanded preference, like the panels in Kronolith/Mnemo/Nag.

That way, the fallback can be to just have the link click through and  
set the preference, expanding/collapsing it when the page reloads.
