Well, if it was php and we could store php resources in it, I think that'd be
the way to go. If were were implementing a straight IMAP proxy, then the
language shouldn't matter.

This idea is different - to have a process, like the java jvm, that is
persistent and can store resources like opened IMAP connections between page
loads. It would be a more general solution than just for IMAP.
