OK, I've committed part 1 (to display the error message).

On part 2, I do think he has a point about people putting the full name in
the from box; I know it has happened here on occasion.

The regex as specified is inelegant, and he agrees it won't work for all
cases.  What if we invert the sense of it, and display an error if the
field contains a bad character (space, comma, etc.) as we do in other
places?
