composeLink || registry->call("mail/compose", ...) returning no value .

Hi.
I have the latest cvs-version. (from 5 minutes ago) and compose is not
working.
If I set compose_popup=0 in my prefs, then compose works well in the
same win.
But if I set compose_popup=1, then composeLink returns blank.

I added a small javascript alert to find out that
registry->call("mail/compose" ....
was returning no value.

 if ($prefs->getValue('compose_popup')) {
        echo "<script>alert('" . $registry->call('mail/compose', $args,
$extra) . "')</script>\n";

any ideas what could be wrong.
My prefs are coming from LDAP and setting/retrieving does not seems to
be the prob
