imp / ssl / netscape ?!??

hello!
is it possible, that there can occur problems with the login over an
ssl-connection?
i open up imp in a popupwindow, passing user and password via
$PHP_AUTH_USER and $PHP_AUTH_PASS and put the other variables as
constants.
everything works fine with the IE, but not with netscape! its not a
problem with the variables, netscape shows them....
netscape opens the page ' login.php3?reason=timeout ' (which cannot be
the reason), but its even impossible to log in from there (netscape
always returns to ' login.php3?reason=timeout '
does anybody have an idea??!??
