All the patches are finally committed, many thanks for your foot work!

We won't apply these changes to the RELENG_* branches before the next set 
of releases though. It would be hard to actually merge these changes to 
RELENG so if you or anyone else is willing to provide patches on the RELENG 
branches after the releases that would be great.
