ok, going against the spirit "if it ain't broke....." i nonetheless tried
playing a bit with this _setvars problem, and here's a possible solution. quite
likely it's not fully thought out, and doesn't patch well, but just wanted to
see anyone's thoughts.

the idea is to fix the lack of cgi sending of the checkbox fields by checking
against what the form class should have set (to avoid having a large number of
hidden fields, potential security risk?)
