That one change he made caused my mail message loading to go from one
sever hit at 1 to 1.5 seconds to multiple web server hits totalling
over 4 seconds.  So I'm  not in favor of this change.  I reverted the
change and my mail is back to 1 second.

I think this is a serious performance issue.
